Lock Nut

The high-strength Lock nut supplied by YS STEEL manufacturers are specialized locking fasteners designed for outdoor vibration conditions. Unlike ordinary flat head nuts, they rely on an exclusive self-locking thread interlocking structure, which can generate a constant thread locking resistance under continuous alternating loads and wind-induced vibrations. This effectively eliminates the problems of nut loosening, slippage, and detachment from their original position.

When manufacturing this Lock nut, YS STEEL factory uses high-quality carbon steel for forging and combines it with a graded heat treatment process to refine the internal structure of the metal and avoid quality defects such as internal cracks and deformation.

Advantages of the manufacturing process

The entire series adopts a full-body hot-dip galvanizing process, covering the inner and outer walls of the thread, as well as the end face with a galvanized layer, eliminating the possibility of rusting in hard-to-reach areas.

It covers multiple strength grades (4.8/8.8/10.9) and all standard thread sizes, and can be precisely matched with bolts, flat washers, and spring washers of the same grade. It is a core component for long-term fastening and cost reduction in outdoor steel structure projects.

Differences Advantage Table

Comparison Dimension YS STEEL Hot-Dip Galvanized Lock Nut Ordinary Standard Hex Nut
Anti-Loosening Mechanism Built-in self-locking structure generates continuous thread friction under vibration No locking feature; relies solely on tightening torque
Vibration Resistance Sustains long-term wind vibration and cyclic alternating loads without rotational loosening Prone to gradual loosening under repeated vibration
Strength Grades Available in Grade 4.8 / 8.8 / 10.9, matched to corresponding bolt grades Limited to lower grades; often mismatched with high-strength bolts
Corrosion Protection Full-piece hot-dip galvanizing covers inner/outer threads and end faces Thin electroplating or bare steel; rusts quickly in outdoor environments
Thread Precision Tapping reserves zinc-coating tolerance; smooth engagement, reduced seizing risk No coating tolerance reserved; frequent thread jamming after plating
Outdoor Service Life Engineered for 25-year design life in PV and steel-structure systems Typically 3–8 years before rust or thread failure
Re-Inspection Frequency Low maintenance; periodic checks sufficient in most conditions Requires frequent re-tightening, especially after strong wind seasons
Supply Flexibility Standard sizes in stock; custom thread, grade and finish; full-kit export with bolts & washers Standard-only inventory; limited customization, no kit packaging
Quality Traceability Full-process QC from raw material to finished-product sampling; ISO 9001 certified Batch-mixed sourcing; limited or no traceable inspection records
Typical Applications Ground-mount PV, rooftop PV, agro-PV, steel-structure workshops, multi-span greenhouses Indoor static joints, low-vibration general fastening only

Correct usage method

Standardized installation is the core to ensure the long-term performance of anti-loosening and anti-corrosion. Based on the factory's years of engineering support experience, the standardized installation process is as follows:

- Selecting the right installation conditions: Match the corresponding strength nut according to the project load, vibration frequency, and environmental grade. For inland normal conditions, 4.8/8.8 grades can be selected, while for heavy loads, high-frequency vibration, and coastal conditions, the 10.9-grade high-strength model is preferred.

- Pre-installation preparation: Before installation, clean the dust, zinc layer burrs, and rusted impurities on the bolt and thread surfaces to ensure smooth thread interlocking and avoid jamming or improper locking.

- Standardized disassembly and reuse: Key load-bearing nuts must not be repeatedly disassembled and reused; for non-static auxiliary nodes, after slight disassembly, check the integrity of the threads and coating, and only use them again if there is no damage.

- Timely replacement of aging components: If the Lock nut has a detached coating, rusted threads, reduced locking force, or slight deformation, replace it with a new one immediately to prevent potential safety hazards caused by continued use in poor condition.

- Storage and placement guidelines: Uninstalled finished products should be stored in a dry and ventilated warehouse to avoid outdoor stacking, rain exposure, and moisture. Do not allow premature oxidation and rusting before leaving the factory.
